As a novice to fly tying I was expecting a little more "help" from the instruction manual. It is next to useless for somebody who has not tied before. If it wasnt for YouTube I wouldn't have known where to start. The whip finish tool simply doesnt work as supplied. Looking on internet is shows what it should have looked liked. I bent the spring section through 90 deg and hey presto, it works. Would not recommend this kit to a novice.

Thank you for your review - If you are completely new to fly tying then we would recommend either the "Beginners Guide To Fly Tying By Chris Mann & Terry Griffiths" or / and "Fly Tying For Beginners by Peter Gathercole" this will help get you started. YouTube is a fantastic way also to learn with this kit. The Whip finish, you can get different designs but they all work in a similar fashion. This kit has sold in their 1000's including to whole classes of new tyers, and has won numerous awards, its an extremely economical way to get anyone up and running. Dissappointing Not enough basics. Documentation minimal. Needed to buy books to begin to understand the processes and feel this is a relatively poor introduction to the craft; at a high price. .

Thank you for your comments. Troutcatchers have sold literally thousands of these kits to all levels of tyers including young people in schools which we have received very favourable comments from the teaching staff. The kit comes with a good starter book which is sufficient for most, however if starting from absolute scratch a more comprehensive book may help, please contact us if you want our advice in choosing this.
In terms of the kit, this is an absolute bargain, the RRP is circa £70 and the contents if purchased separately worth a lot more, our price as you found is the best out there.
