Thank you for your review, along with its larger 528 Bobbin holder, this has long been a very popular best selling Bobbin holder - It does have a ceramic tube with a hardened steel tip insert, the benefits are to prevent fraying and wear, the countersunk feed allows your tying thread/silk to glide easily through the tube when both threading and tying. If thread is breaking, try adjusting its main & best feature, the tension control knob to suit the strength of your thread. Hopefully you'll be happy with it once you have got used to it.
