The fly tying kit is a great starter to provide wide range of materials, although it doesnt provide the materials for all the flys pictured on the back of the packaging. I would still recommend this as a good kit to buy to get started though. .

Looks good, absolute beginner so not sure how value compares to buying individual items. I might require a bit more info on where and for what I might be using the flys in book for. Of course I can do further research!

As a novice to fly tying I was expecting a little more "help" from the instruction manual. It is next to useless for somebody who has not tied before. If it wasnt for YouTube I wouldn't have known where to start. The whip finish tool simply doesnt work as supplied. Looking on internet is shows what it should have looked liked. I bent the spring section through 90 deg and hey presto, it works. Would not recommend this kit to a novice.

Thank you for your review - If you are completely new to fly tying then we would recommend either the "Beginners Guide To Fly Tying By Chris Mann & Terry Griffiths" or / and "Fly Tying For Beginners by Peter Gathercole" this will help get you started. YouTube is a fantastic way also to learn with this kit. The Whip finish, you can get different designs but they all work in a similar fashion. This kit has sold in their 1000's including to whole classes of new tyers, and has won numerous awards, its an extremely economical way to get anyone up and running. Hope this helps - Good luck with your New hobby.

It's a starter kit - a good start if you want to start or re-start fly tying, there are plenty of guides on YouTube and there is enough material to get you started. As always you will find that you will purchase more materials as your experience increases. Vice and tools are ok - something to upgrade once you decide that you want to carry on.

Having tied flies many years ago I was looking for a starter kit that I could add to gradually as I identified flies I wanted to tie. I was surprised that this kit still could not tie many of the patterns in the supplied instructions without having to make compromises on one or two of the materials used. Happy enough but am glad I am not a raw beginner!

The book supplied with the Kit is a general fly tying book (Booklet “Fly Tying For The Beginner”) of which the kit covers a lot of the flies featured, however there are also other flies featured as you progress through the hobby. The kit is designed for a modern Fly Tyer just starting out, or someone such as your good self who wishes to obtain a lot of items at a considerable discount to purchasing individually.

Wonderful Service Can not fault the service and delivery. I have returned to fly fishing after a 41 year break. Unfortunately I sold all my gear and now it''s restocking. The purchase of this kit is an easy way to build my stock again. From this collection I have added other items. A good foundation to start from. .

Dissappointing Not enough basics. Documentation minimal. Needed to buy books to begin to understand the processes and feel this is a relatively poor introduction to the craft; at a high price. .

Troutcatchers have sold literally thousands of these kits to all levels of tyers including young people in schools which we have received very favourable comments from the teaching staff. The kit comes with a good starter book which is sufficient for most, however if starting from absolute scratch a more comprehensive book may help, please contact us if you want our advice in choosing this.
In terms of the kit, this is an absolute bargain, the RRP is circa £70 and the contents if purchased separately worth a lot more, our price as you found is the best out there.
